‘if Nick Cave was a lady……and was a fan of jazz music, then he'd be a little bit like Caroline Ty…..exotic rhythms and big vocals, crashing in waves against a pebbly beach of contemporary lyrics and new-wave poetry’. The Mag

London born songwriter Caroline Ty produces alternative Nu-jazz-pop with dark bluesy vocals and richly lyrical song themes, a fusion of electronic and organic. Music you can dance to, but with a dark undertone somewhere in the chord changes, as if not all is well at the party. Influenced musically by artists such as Dead can Dance, Pet Shop Boys and Massive Attack. Inspired vocally by expressive singers like Nina Simone and Dusty Springfield, who tell the story of the song sincerely and without vocal acrobatics. Lyrical influences are songwriters like Nick Cave, Guy Garvey and Leonard Cohen, who use strong imaginary and original poetic language.

Caroline Ty draws her influences from strong vocalists with a story to tell. Her latest EP is a collection of four electro-jazz tracks that marry political comment with some seriously infectious beats'. So Magazine

‘They are only Human, but we treat them like Gods’ - with the EP’s title swiping a cheeky paw at the obsession with celebrity worship, was a collection of 4 original Electro-jazz tracks released in 2011. Blending elements of retro sampling, fat funky beats, sweeping strings and confessional, sometimes ironic lyrics that captured the political zeitgeist of money grabbing, deception and broken promises.
Scheduled for release in September 2012 is a collection of chocolately smooth, but bittersweet love songs. Blending elements of jazz and ska, ‘You Will Always Want More (and Never What Is In Your Hand)’ is the fourth EP, self penned and produced and released with a spirit of independence.

Far away percussion and spacey synths play host to a woozily seductive vocal. As everything goes off at odd angles, there’s something strangely obsessive about Caroline’s declarations of devotion. Like a stalker. But a stalker you’d say hello to’. Overplay.com
